Thailand is now well established as one of the world’s favourite holiday destinations, it’s great weather, stunning scenery and superb cuisine making up a winning combination. A great deal of first-time visitors who arrive in the capital Bangkok, spend a few days sightseeing and then head off to the easily reached paradise islands of Phuket or Ko Samui. I would like to introduce a lesser-known area of the country on the southwestern coast, a collection of villages known as Khao Lak. I will provide you some excellent information including how to get there, what there is to while you are there and various accommodation options when it comes to choosing from the best resort hotels or pool villas in Khao Lak.

Getting To Khao Lak

The area of Khao Lak is the southern province of Phang Nga on the western coast adjacent to Phuket province, it is easily reached via the airports in nearby Phuket or Ko Samui and a short bus or taxi journey although some of more luxurious resorts may collect you from the airport. The name Khao Lak means ‘Main Mountain’ as the Lak Mountain is the largest peak in the nearby Khao Lak-Lam Ru National Park and used to guide ancient seafarers into the coastal ports.

Things To Do in Khao Lak

The area is centred around half dozen wonderful beaches such as Khao Lak, Nang Thong and Bang Niang and offer all the usual water related activities. The area is also a world-renowned Scuba diving mecca as the nearby Similan Islands have well-deserved reputation as one of the world’s best. For the more adventurous trips into the jungle centred around the local national park are available by foot, bicycle, or ATV and both the Ton Chong Fa Waterfalls and Thai Navy’s Turtle Nursery are worth a visit.

Where To Stay

The Khao Lak area while being quieter than some the country’s more famous holiday destinations is still well equipped with diverse range of accommodation options. I am going to provide you with several excellent options from the many great hotels in the area.

  • The Haven Khao Lak – This beachside resort hotel is consistently well-reviewed and has a fabulous layout centred around its five pools, spa, and restaurant.
